Hair Ornament

  • Robert Ebendorf, Hair Ornament, 1960, silver and plique-à-jour enamel, Smithsonian American Art Museum, Gift of the artist in honor of Brittany Ebendorf, 1998.117

Luce Center Label

Hair Ornament marks the artist's brief foray into a traditional style. Plique-à-jour enamel does not use a metal backing, but is fused to the sides of the shape it fills, allowing light to illuminate the color of the material. This piece was donated in honor of Brittany Ebendorf, the daughter of Robert Ebendorf and artist Ivy Ross.
