Artwork Description

Research has not revealed the purpose of the medal for which Anthony de Francisci created this artist’s strike, or sample, but the stylized figures suggest that the image was designed in the 1930s. De Francisci borrowed the classical composition of a pietà, a scene of Mary mourning the crucified Christ.
