Artwork Description

This sculpture depicts the mythical characters Bellerophon and Pegasus. The young warrior Bellerophon was sent to slay the Chimera, a fire-breathing monster, by his enemy Prince Proteus, who hoped that he would be killed. The hero enlisted the help of the winged horse Pegasus, however, and together they succeeded in destroying the Chimera.
