Artwork Description

Philip Weber's tiny boxes are inspired by many different patterns, including brickwork, insects, jewelry, and electronic equipment. They are rarely more than fourteen inches long and can be constructed from many different pieces. Inner Wisdom 67-87 (see 1998.78.3) is made from ebony, and small elements of gleaming brass and steel are displayed against this dark surface. The lid of Space Probe (see 1998.78.1a-b) and the body of Oval are assembled from flared strips of golden Pacific yew wood to form an intricate rounded surface.
