JOSHUA DEMONTE: Hey everyone, Josh DeMonte here. I’m one of the artists exhibiting in the upcoming “40 Under 40” Exhibition. I’m really excited for the show. All of the work speaks to craft’s existence in the 21st century.

My work represents artists utilizing a family of techniques called “digital fabrication” or rapid prototyping. These technologies build three-dimensional form from 3D computer data. I’m here at the object lounge at Towson University, and I figure I’d give you a quick tour and show you what these machines look like and some of the work that comes off of them.

Here are plaster molds we CNC’d and we’re slip-casting porcelain into them. Here’s some work that we printed on our Z Corp 3D printer. And here are some rings that we’ll be casting later today. This is our Z Corp machine. It prints in a medium that’s a combination of plaster and resin. It can also print in full color. This is our object 3D printer. It prints in a variety of different resins, ranging from transparent to opaque, rigid to flexible.
