En 1969, después de que seis jóvenes latinos fueron detenidos en el Districto Misión de San Francisco por, supuestamente, haber asesinado a un oficial de policía, surgió una campaña — Free Los siete de la raza (Free the People’s Seven) — para limpiar sus nombres. López creó este cartel para defenderlos. Su imagen transforma las estrellas y las barras de la bandera de los Estados Unidos en barrotes de cárcel con candados que ocultan parcialmente los rostros de los seis jóvenes (uno de los acusados nunca fue detenido). La artista rodea esta imagen central con una cita adaptada del Juramento de lealtad, que irónicamente termina con la palabra free o libre. Este cartel fue llevado a las protestas e impreso en las páginas de ¡Basta ya!, el periódico de la campaña que fue publicado en colaboración con el movimiento Panteras Negras. En 1970, los jóvenes fueron absueltos de todas las acusaciones.
