Los vecindarios del centro urbano son comunidades donde se despliegan las narrativas humanas. Nacimientos, bodas y amistades son el enfoque de las fotografías agrupadas en esta sección. Las conmovedoras fotografías que tomó Perla de Leon del South Bronx en Nueva York, un vecindario famosamente deteriorado, contrastan vigorosamente la devastación física del vecindario con la vida de quienes lo llaman hogar. Winston Vargas documentó los eventos familiares y los sitios culturales más importantes en su vecindario de Nueva York, que acogió a nuevos inmigrantes en los años cercanos a los disturbios civiles de la década de los 60 y de los 70. Los retratos callejeros de los residentes de East Los Angeles que hizo John Valadez son informales y a la vez monumentales, y celebran el optimismo de los jóvenes en su vida cotidiana.
