South Drive-In
Located on the south side of Dodge City, South Drive-In was built in 1947. It is a single-screen drive-in and has a capacity for 300 cars. This old-fashioned drive-in movie theater is still open and plays new release movies. My experience was very exciting getting to explore a piece of Dodge City’s history. I loved the way the pictures turned out and I had so much fun taking the pictures.
Hay Bales
Located close to Dodge City High School, in a field by First Southern Baptist Church, there are bales of hay that we took pictures of. It is cool and unique that you can see hay bales in town. That is the interesting thing about Kansas. It was really windy that day, and it was fun to try to take pictures in the wind. I had lots of fun taking pictures of the hay bales, and I’m really glad we got to take some cool pictures there.
Cowboys
Dodge City is the Cowboy Capital of the World, so where is the best place to find real cowboys other than Winter Livestock? Established in 1936, Winter Livestock is one of the oldest family-owned cattle auctions in the nation. It has been named one of Kansas's 8 Wonders of Commerce because it is America's largest independent cattle auction company and one of the nation's oldest. It is currently owned by Brian Winter. My experience while taking pictures at Winter Livestock was amazing. I had so much fun taking pictures with my peers and learning about the history of the Winter Livestock. Grace Winter, daughter of owner Brian Winter, showed us around, and you can see her in a few of the pictures. Their family brands are located inside the door, along with many of their customers, friends, and families. Other pictures in the series include employees working during the auction.
