Interview with Nick Settles, representative of Southland Church

How many people are impacted by our mission trips?

This is a tough question because it is hard to gauge the impact of a mission trip. I believe there are people who we serve are impacted, but I also believe everyone who goes to serve is impacted too. Southland Students offer around 4-5 mission trips a year. Each trip can have anywhere from 10-25 students on them. Depending upon the work that they do (which I will answer in the next question) will depend on the amount of people that are impacted by it.

What kind of work happens on mission trips?

  • EKY/CAP - Rebuild houses, build accessibility ramps, and home repair.
  • CINCI/BLOC - Inner-city after school programs and maintenance of building as needed.
  • CANADA - Running fun stations at a community event (face painting, bouncy houses, carnival games). Food prep and service such as running a grill or pancake griddle and serving food to attendees. Gospel conversations with attenders (sharing the gospel and sharing about the local church you're helping).
  • UGANDA - Help with running VBS.

On average how many people attend Southland (Danville) campus?

1,100+ people

What are some ways our "Give" program has impacted our community?

At Southland there is something called the "Dollar Club." Where they ask everyone in the church to give $1 more than what they normally give. This allows Southland to bless families in communities all around Central KY. In 2023, Southland gave more than $700,000 to 80+ families through the Dollar Club.

On average how many kids get baptized after our trips (mix, beach week, fall, and winter retreat)?

I don't know specifics on baptisms that are correlated with trips. But in 2023, there were 162 baptisms at Southland Students across all five campuses.
