Working on Cars
Working on cars together with my dad is more than just turning wrenches. It's a shared passion that strengthens our bond. Every project becomes an opportunity for us to work together, problem-solve, and learn from each other. Whether we're tinkering under the hood or fine-tuning the engine, the garage transforms into our sanctuary, echoing with laughter, stories, some arguments, and the satisfying hum of progress. Through grease-stained hands and late-night discussions, we not only nurture our mechanical skills but also cultivate a deep connection built on trust, respect, and a mutual love for all things automotive.
Winter Livestock
Dodge City is the Cowboy Capital of the World, so where is the best place to find real cowboys other than Winter Livestock? Established in 1936, Winter Livestock is one of the oldest family-owned cattle auctions in the nation. It has been named one of Kansas' 8 Wonders of Commerce because it is America's largest independent cattle auction company and one of the nation's oldest. It is currently owned by Brian Winter. My experience while taking pictures at Winter Livestock was amazing. I had a very good experience, and I am grateful for the opportunity to take pictures of an auction, including cows and horses.
Windmill Farms
Windmill farms located approximately five miles south of Dodge City right next to a wheat field. These represent two big staples of Dodge City. The windmills are the perfect place for Dodge because of the amount of wind that is here. Dodge City is touted as the windiest city in the U.S. Wheat is a Kansas staple and Kansas is the top producer of wheat worldwide. Kansas is known as the “Breadbasket of the World.” My experience was really cool. I got to take really awesome pictures and I also never been really close to a windmill before so it was a really great experience to be able to take pictures of the windmills.
Hay Bales
Located on the Northside of Dodge City, by a church, is a few acre plot of land with hay bales spread out across it. My experience was adventurous, having to fight against the wind, trying not to get blown away. Dodge City is actually the windiest city in the United States, most people think it is Chicago. But, it was fun being able to climb hay bales, having my picture taken, and also taking pictures.
South Drive-In
Located on the south side of Dodge City, South Drive-In was built in 1947. It is a single-screen drive-in and has a capacity for 300 cars. This old-fashioned drive-in movie theater is still open and plays new-release movies. My experience was very exciting getting to explore a piece of Dodge City’s history. It was also fun getting to climb up on the sign and get some good pictures taken of me.
