Interview with Danville High School Resource Officer Bartleson

Question: What year did you graduate from DHS?

Officer Bartleson: 2004.

Question: What was that like when you were here?

Officer Bartleson: Our class was rowdy. We got pulled into the auditorium a lot, but I had a lot of fun hanging with my friends and then also playing basketball, so it was a good time.

Question: What are your favorite memories?

Officer Bartleson: Of course, being on the basketball team. We were good! My first two years we almost went to State, my sophomore year we got beat by Wayne County in the region championship, and then my last two years were challenging because we had a new coach.  But we struggled the last 2 years but probably my first two years were the best.

Question: What are some things that have stayed the same about Danville students?

Officer Bartleson: Students are just students! I'll say it's like, a lot of the kids that I know now, I know all their parents, there are a lot of parents who went to school here so I think like generations- I think the same type of families are here in the school. Same generation of the families. Teachers like Mr. C was here when I was here. He's the only teacher that was here my senior year; it was his first year. I say the teachers in the building still the same, nothing changed about the building!

Question: How have students changed?

Officer Bartleson: This generation of students- like it's y'all have your cell phones out, we wouldn't have cell phones, we wouldn't be allowed to wear jackets!  I think a lot of the rules are different too.

Question: What is something you wish our generation knew or understood, or what's the best advice that you would like us to know?

Officer Bartleson: Just be prepared when you become a senior! Real life is going to hit you soon as you graduate. So just have a plan before you leave the school and just be prepared for the real life!
