Interview with Mia’s Aunt Tami, a CASA Employee

Mia: I chose to interview my Aunt, who works for CASA.  I chose her because she has changed so many kids’ lives for the better.  She’s provided safe homes for kids that come from abusive homes, or parents who cannot take care of their children for the time being, due to alcohol or drug abuse.  Multiple volunteers have adopted children from this system, which is what happened with my Aunt.  She originally joined just to help short term, but has loved it ever since.  This job is something that’s made me think about my own future.  I know it would have to be challenging, and I’d want to adopt every child we see! The challenge would be worth it because I would change so many kids’ life, make them feel better about themselves, help their future, and change the community.

Mia: How long have you been working with CASA?

Tammi: 9 ½ years. Joined in 2014.

Mia: What was your inspiration for working with CASA?

Tammi: I wanted to be a foster parent but my husband was not ready so I thought this was the next best thing.

Mia: What is CASA?

Tammi: Court appointed special advocate. We train community members to become advocates to help abused kids.

Mia: How can somebody be a part of CASA?

Tammi: If you want to volunteer, you must be 21+, pass a background check, and have the heart to change a child's life. We also like to “plant the seed of volunteering and really make a difference in this community."

Mia: What is your favorite part of working in this community?

Tammi: Seeing the positive impact that our community members make.
