Reporters “Can you please state your name and what are you doing at Centre right now?”
My name is Beth Morgan and I am the archivist at Center College.
Reporters “Since you're the archivist, you know when the college started right?”
Centre College was founded in 1819.
Reporters “What are some of the things that stuck out to you to go to Centre, since you are an alumni of Centre?”
“I graduated from Centre in 2001 and I wanted to go to Centre because it is very well-known for having an excellent academic program, some very strong academics, and also an excellent study abroad program. And I wanted to study abroad.”
Reporters “Picking up on the studying abroad part, did you travel a lot before Centre?”
"No I did not."
Reporters “So one of the reasons why you wanted to study abroad is because you hadn’t?”
“Right”
Reporters “Also academics, so Centre is well-known for their academics, everyone knows that, but how do they rank in terms with UK since you also went there?”
In my own experience I found graduate school at UK to be relatively easy after attended Centre for my undergrad, so it was really really challenging. I had been a straight A student in hIgh school and made really good grades in highschool, but I did struggle from the transition from highschool to college and it took me pretty much my whole freshman year of college to really kind of get my feet under me. So it was very rigorous, very high expectations but also a lot of creativity in the teaching and the professors really want, then and now, really want them to succeed. You do get a lot of support, but you're also expected to perform well on your own.”
Reporters “Do you think Centre is as good as it is talked up to be overall?”
“Yes, I do. And I say that because I have been there as a student and now having been on the other side of that, then I can see first hand you know that the professors really care. They put a lot into their work, their classes are really creative but also very challenging and there is a really high standard. So I definitely think that Centre students receive top notch education, definitely the best in Kentucky and one of the best in the country I would say.”
“Ok, what attracted you to work at Centre?”
“So a couple of things, one was geographic location since I am from Kentucky, and at the time I was living in Virginia looking for another job in Kentucky, so I wanted to move closer to home where the rest of my family lives, and also because I had attended Centre as a student I thought it would be fun and work where I had once been a student. I knew the campus and I knew people, so I thought it would be a great place to work.”
“So overall your experience was good?”
“Yes.”
